A beautiful baby was born on 21st Sept 1938 to a highly educated and affluent couple Dr Khanderao and Kishori Pathare whom they named her Shirley. The baby’s beauty reminded them of the beautiful Shirley Temple and hence unconventional name in a Maharashtrian family. Eldest of 5 children, while studying in St. Columba High School, Mumbai, she fell in love with athletics which she managed to nurture even as she pursued as a dental student and then later as staff member at Nair Hospital Dental College and Hospital, Mumbai. She excelled equally in her subject Prosthodontics as well as her love athletics. After retiring as HOD, Dept of Prosthodontics, NHDC, Mumbai she continued to guide students as Professor at Yenepoya Dental College , Mangalore and Terna Dental College, Navi Mumbai.

Spanning a teaching career of over 4 decades she guided many students in Prosthodontics as well as touched their lives with her love and motherly affection not comprising on the discipline.

She is a shining light and a source of inspiration to almost 20 dentist in the family, which itself might be a record of sorts.Currently she has found new love and is guiding her grandson Raunak in his creative career as an actor and director.
